Beres Hammond Information
Beres Hammond OJ (August 28, 1955) is a Jamaican reggae songwriter and singer born in Annotto Bay, Saint Mary, Jamaica, as Hugh Beresford Hammond. His love of rock music is a prominent element that brought unlimited success to Hammond. His career started in the 1970s, but the 1990s were when he was most successful. Sam Cooke and Otis Redding were among the American soul and jazz artists Hammond's father collected and played for him as a child. He was additionally influenced by local ska and rocksteady, particularly Alton Ellis.
Between 1972 and 1973, Hammond started competing in regional talent shows, which resulted in the recording of Ellis' "Wanderer" as his debut release. Hammond established his record company, Harmony House Records, to release his Make a Song album in 1985. Since then, he has released many top hits, including Putting Up Resistance, Love Has No Boundaries, One Love, One Life, Never Ending, and many more.
Hammond also released some amazing compilations such as 1998 Beres Hammond: Collectors Series, 2003 Can't Stop a Man: The Best of Beres Hammond, and 2009 Something Old Something New.
For the 2007 Cricket World Cup Opening Ceremony, Hammond traveled back to Jamaica. The Jamaican government bestowed the Order of Jamaica award upon Hammond in 2013. In January 2014, he received a Grammy Award nomination.
Beres Hammond made a tour of the US and Canada in 2019. The Never Ending tour began in Danbury, Connecticut, in late July. Beres Hammond was honored by the Jamaican Museum and Cultural Center in Atlanta, GA, on August 20, 2023, for his outstanding commitment and passionate musical skill.
