Benny Green Information
Benny Green (April 4, 1963) is an American musician. He was born in New York City, New York. His father was a jazz tenor saxophonist; thus, he was interested in jazz early on. Faye Carroll "found" Benny Green, who worked in a quintet led by Eddie Henderson while still in his teens. Green attended Berkeley High School and was a jazz ensemble member there.
He had a weekly trio performance at Yoshi's in his senior year of high school, which was his introduction to the world of professional jazz. After high school, he lived in San Francisco, then returned to New York and grew more successful. Green joined Betty Carter's band in April 1983 and has led his trio since 1991. He's worked with Blue Note, Telarc, and Criss Cross Records.
Green gives courses throughout the country, including Jazz Camp West in California and Centrum/Jazz Port Townsend in Washington. He now lives in the United States and tours the world with his band. Sunnyside Records published a studio album called Then and Now in 2018.
