Belinda Carlisle Information
Belinda Jo Carlisle (August 17, 1958) is an American singer, songwriter, musician, and author. She was born in Los Angeles, California, and raised in Southern California. She became the lead singer of the Go-Go’s after the band’s formation in 1978. Her first musical venture was in 1977, where she took part as a drummer in the punk rock band Germs. Carlisle began to play under the name Dottie Danger. Lorna Doom recruited Carlisle into the band. She soon left Germs and later co-founded Go-Gos with friends and other fellow musicians. The band became one of the most successful American bands of the 1980s.
In 1985, the Go-Go’s disbanded, and Carlisle eventually embarked on a solo career. Her first solo album was released in mid-1986 entitled Belinda. The album was successful in North America, got Gold certification in the United States, and Platinum in Canada. The summer hit entitled “Mad About You” peaked at number 3 in the United States. It also topped the Canadian Singles Chart.
Carlisle’s second solo studio album was Heaven on Earth that was released on October 5, 1987. The album was released in the United States through MCA and in the United Kingdom through Virgin Records. Heaven on Earth became a Top 5 bestseller in the United Kingdom and Australia. It was also nominated for a Grammy Award. Other hit studio albums released by Belinda Carlisle include Runaway Horses (1989), Live Your Life Be Free (1991), Real (1993), A Woman and a Man (1996), Voila (2007), and Wilder Shores (2017).
