Bela Dona is a diverse female band that originated from Washington, D.C. The group was founded in September 2007 and is currently managed by John Agurs. Bela Dona’s music is classified as jazz, funk, rock, and R&B. The women are praised for their high energy concerts and dynamic musicianship on stage. The current lineup of the band consists of Sweet Cherie (M.D., keys, and vocals), Karis Hill (MC/vocals), Kim Scott (vocals), Dani Jordan (vocals), and a few more. The group’s name means “pretty lady.” Bela Dona females are all civic leaders and activists, businesswomen, mothers, wives, educators, and mentors.
Bela Dona has toured and performed with several notable artists, including Elton John, Chuck Brown, Nile Rodgers, Regina Belle, Salt & Pepa, and Michael Bolton. In 2014, Bela Dona had the distinct honor of serving as the house band on the Tom Joyner Fantastic Voyage Cruise. They have been nominated twice for DMV Awards and earned the “Best Up and Coming Band” award by the Go-Go Coalition in 2009. The group’s other notable awards are “Best Go-Go Duo or Group” by WAMA and “Best Female Band/Duo Group” by Titan Awards in 2014.
