At the Gates Information
At the Gates is a Swedish death metal band with a current lineup of Anders Björler, Tomas Lindberg, Adrian Erlandsson, Jonas Björler, and Martin Larsson. In late 1990, members of the death and black metal band Grotesque formed At the Gates. They signed with the Dolores record company and released their first EP, Gardens of Grief. In 1992, the band published their debut album, The Red in the Sky Is Ours, after being signed by Peaceville Records after hearing their EP.
In 1993, after the release of their studio album, With Fear I Kiss the Burning Darkness, founding member and guitarist Alf Svensson quit the band to focus on other hobbies. Soon after, the band learned about former House of Usher guitarist Martin Larsson through the underground tape-swapping scene and recruited him to replace him. The band's European tour continued in July 1993, when they were shot in Nottingham, England, for a Headbangers Ball special.
The Gates' third album, Terminal Spirit Disease, was widely regarded as a game-changer when released in 1994. The band continued touring, and in 1995, they released Slaughter of the Soul on Earache Records, which became their most commercially and critically successful record. Compared to their other releases, this album is often considered their finest death metal offering.
