As I Lay Dying is a San Diego based American heavy metal band which was founded in 2000 by Tim Lambesis (vocalist). The current member list of the group includes Tim Lambesis, Jordan Mancino, Josh Gilbert, Phil Sgrosso, and Nick Hipa. Some past members that are no longer part of the band are Evan White, Tommy Garcia, Aaron Kennedy, Clint Norris, Jason Krebs, and Noah Chase. This band is also known as a death metal, thrash metal, and Christian metal.
The very first album recorded by the As I Lay Dying band was Beneath the Encasing of Ashes, which was released on June 2001. Another five songs were released by the group for a split album along with the American Tragedy band. “Frail Words Collapse” was the second album released by the band in 2003. This album hit no.30 on Billboard's Independent Albums chart while no.41 on Top Heatseekers chart. "94 Hours" and "Forever" were two hit songs by As I Lay Dying that received attention on some of the big networks such as MTV2's Headbanger's Ball and Fuse.
The year 2005-2009 was said to be a successful period for the band. Their third album release “Shadows Are Security” topped no.1 on the chart of Independent Albums. This release entered the band in Billboard 200-at no. 35. Some past tours done by As I Lay Dying were with Unearth, Slipknot, Ozzfest, Heaven Shall Burn, Suicide Silence, while others were Hell on Earth, Warped Tour 2007 in August, The Cool Tour, and Winter Headline Tour.
Some other hit releases by this heavy metal band include An Ocean Between Us, DVD; This Is Who We Are, The Powerless Rise, Decas (a compilation), Awakened, and a few more. Lambesis was arrested on May 7, 2013, in Oceanside, California. He was arrested for hiring an undercover detective to kill his wife (estranged). He was released on December 2016 and reconnected with the band after severe ups and downs.
The reunited band than released fresh music after receiving mix-up reactions by the fans. Some of the recent releases by the band are "Redefined" (a music video released on April 12, 2019), Shaped by Fire (7th album), and "Blinded".
