Anna Vissi Information
Anna Vissi (December 20, 1957) is a Greek Cypriot singer and songwriter. She was born in Larnaca, Cyprus. While attending the University of Athens, she signed with Minos, worked with other musicians, and put out promotional singles before jumping to the professional music scene in Athens in 1973.
Vissi entered the music business when her single "As Kanoume Apopse Mian Arhi" won the Thessaloniki Song Festival in 1977. She followed that success with the release of her self-titled debut album. She has been working closely with Nikos Karvelas, a songwriter whom she was married to from 1983 until 1992 and with whom she had a child, and together they have become one of the most famous musical duos in Greece. They formed CarVi together but ran into legal trouble with EMI Greece, so they left for CBS Records Greece (later renamed Sony Music Greece).
She has appeared in three stage productions, made brief forays into television and radio, and released over two dozen albums throughout her career, most of which have been certified at least gold in the two nations. After pioneering the incorporation of Western pop and dance elements into traditional Greek lako and entehno, Vissi became one of the most famous portrayers of the lako-pop hybrid genre and culture that was popular from the mid-1990s to the mid-2000s.
