Ann Hampton Callaway (May 30, 1958) is an American actress, songwriter, and jazz singer. She has written and sung many songs for the television series “The Nanny.” She was born in Chicago, Illinois, and was taught singing by her father while her mother taught her classical music. Callaway studied acting for two straight years at the University of Illinois. In 1979, she moved to New York City. Callaway has written theme songs for Day’s End, The Jim J and Tammy Fay Show, and Cabaret Beat.
Callaway composed the song “At the Same Time” for Barbra Streisand. The song also appeared on her album entitled “Higher Ground,” and it debuted at number 1 and was her first platinum record. Numerous artists have performed her music and lyrics to date, including Lillias White, Peter Nero, Liza Minnelli, Donna McKechnie, Amanda McBroom, Patti LuPone, Carole King, Harvey Fierstein, Michael Feinstein, Blossom Dearie, Barbara Carroll, Liz Callaway, and Karrin Allyson.
Callaway performed her song “Let the Saints Come Marching” in September 2005 on a national TV broadcast that aired on Fox News Channel. The song she wrote was written in honor of victims of Hurricane Katrina. In early 2005, she released her song entitled “Who Can See the Blue the Same Again.” She has also released several notable albums such as Ann Hampton Callaway (1992), Bring Back Romance (1994), Sibling Revelry with Liz Callaway (1996), Boom! Live at Birdland with Liz Callaway (2012) and From Sassy to Divine: The Sarah Vaughan Project (2014).
