Ana Popovic Information
Ana Popovic (May 13, 1976) is a blues singer and guitarist from Belgrade, Yugoslavia (Serbia) though she currently resides in the United States. Her music is defined as blues, blues rock, and soul-blues. Popovic was introduced to music by her father and began playing the guitar at the age of 15. She founded a band in 1995 and named it Hush. It was created with the help of Milan Saric (bass guitar), Rade Popovic (guitar, vocals), and Bojan Ivkovic (drums). The group performed rhythm and blues, along with the incorporation of funk and soul sound. During 1998, the band had over 100 performances playing in blues festivals and clubs. One of the discographies released by Popovic under her band was entitled Hometown.
Popovic created another band in 1999 by the name Popovic Band in the Netherlands. She appeared beside Taj Mahal, Buddy Miles, Double Trouble, Eric Burdon, and in 2000, on the Jimi Hendrix tribute album Blue Haze: Songs of Jimi Hendrix. Popovic made her solo debut in 2001. It was followed by her second album entitled Comfort to the Soul in 2003. In the same year, Popovic was invited by Solomon Burke to join him on the stage of the Rhythm & Blues Festival in Belgium. A few years later, in 2005, she released a live album and DVD entitled "Ana! Live in Amsterdam" in 2005.
Some of her other notable studio albums are Still Making History, Blind for Love, An Evening at Trasimeno Lake, and Unconditional. Popovic was the winner of the Jazz a Juan Revelation award in Juan-les-Pins, France 2004, Best Blues DVD at the Blues Matters Awards 2011, and nominated for many others such as French Blues Awards, and W.C. Handy Awards.
