Since she was five years old, Amador has learned these skills as a backup vocalist for her parents’ bilingual Latin folk band, Sol y Canto. Her comfort with performing stems from the fact that she and her twin brother grew up touring with their parents’ band. Amador and her twin were frequently squeezed into a minivan or backstage throughout their high school years, loading in and out and passing the time by building styrofoam puppets out of coffee cups and stirrers.
Amador began playing classical guitar at the age of ten, inspired by her father; then, he discovered the electric guitar a decade later. Her varied influences and styles were reflected in the new instrument’s versatility. It’s quite clear that most of Amador’s time spent in jazz and Latin folk is reflected in her songs composed in both Spanish and English.
