Alejandro Sanchez Pizarro (December 18, 1968) is a Spanish composer, singer and musician. He was born in Madrid, Spain. After teaming up with Shakira in 2005, their track "La Tortura" topped the charts in many countries. He explored new musical territory with No Es lo Mismo (2003) and El Tren de los Momentos (2006); his 2009 album Paraso Express marked a return to form.
When Sanz started, his songs were mostly slow, emotional ballads about love. His collaborations with various musicians in the late '90s widened his artistic horizons significantly. He dabbled in different genres on No Es lo Mismo, including rock, salsa, and hip hop. Sanz's unusual raspy voice results from his flamenco heritage; he cites vocalist Camarón de la Isla as an important musical influence.
During the presidential crisis in Venezuela in early 2019, Sanz voiced his support for Juan Guaidó in a live-streamed Instagram interview. Sanz was honored with a star for Recording on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in October 2021.
