Adriana Calcanhotto Information
Adriana Calcanhotto (October 3, 1965) is a Brazilian singer and songwriter. Her melancholy tunes are frequently classified as MPB. Her professional career began in 1984, and her debut studio album was published in 1990. Carlos Calcanhotto (formerly Calcagnotto) was born in Volpago del Montello, Veneto, to an Italian pianist and a Brazilian dancer.
Calcanhotto's first album, Enguiço, was released in 1990 and comprised mostly covers of well-known MPB (Brazilian pop) songs that she had performed at restaurants and bars in Porto Alegre. The album's only original composition was the title track. It gave birth to her first success, a cover of Caetano Veloso's Naquela Estação, which became popular after appearing on the soundtrack of the popular Brazilian primetime series Rainha da Sugata.
Sen has was released in 1992, and it featured the songs "Mentiras" and "Esquadros," as well as a successful national tour. Calcanhotto released A Fábrica do Poema in 1994, wearing a new style (short black hair instead of the somewhat longer bright blond haircut she'd sported since the beginning of her career). Many believe it to be her most poetic album.
Calcanhotto performed in front of an appreciative crowd at the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada, on October 23, 2009, as part of a free performance sponsored by the Brazilian Embassy. Calcanhotto has been a university ambassador at Universidade de Coimbra since 2015, functioning as a visiting lecturer on song composition courses and as an artist-in-residence.
