Aaron Goldberg Information
Aaron Goldberg (April 30, 1974) is an American jazz pianist. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts. At age 7, he started taking piano lessons; by 14, he was performing jazz. Goldberg studied with saxophonist Jerry Bergonzi at 16 after being introduced to improvisation by Bob Sinicrope, the creator of Milton Academy's Jazz Program. At seventeen, Goldberg uprooted to New York City to study at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. He spent his off-hours honing his piano skills in preparation for gigs across the city.
After finishing college in 1996, Goldberg relocated to New York City and resumed his musical pursuits full-time. Goldberg met Betty Carter at Harvard when he participated in her Jazz Ahead program alongside Mark Turner and Gregory Tardy. After teaming up with Reuben Rogers on bass and Eric Harland on drums in 1998, Aaron Goldberg released Turning Point on J Curve in 1999 as a trio.
Goldberg's career as a pianist was taking off, so he decided to fulfill his lifelong dream and get a master's degree in philosophy to investigate further the ideas presented in his senior thesis. A suburb of Boston, Medford, is home to Tufts University, where he started a master's degree program in 2005.
