Williams–Brice Stadium is an outdoor football stadium located at 1174 George Rogers Boulevard, Columbia, South Carolina. It serves home to the South Carolina Gamecocks football team. The venue was built and opened on October 6, 1934, for the general public with a construction cost of around $113,086. The current seating capacity of the stadium is approximately 80,250. Since its opening, it has gone through multiple renovations and expansions from 1949-2012. The improvements of the venue were completed and designed by Robert L. Sumwalt Architects. It is considered as the 20th largest college football stadium in the NCAA.
Williams–Brice Stadium hosted its first game on September 23, 1934, when South Carolina Gamecocks beat Erksine by a score of 25-0. The stadium's single-game attendance record of 85,199 fans was set on October 6, 2012, when #6 Gamecocks beat #5 Georgia with 35–7. It hosted the annual Palmetto Capital City Classic between Johnson C. Smith University Benedict College. Barack Obama attracted approximately 29,000 attendees at the stadium in December 2007, to a presidential primary campaign stop. The stadium also hosts state high school football championships, concerts, and various other events. Famous bands that have performed at the stadium include; U2, Guns N' Roses, Metallica, Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, George Strait, Jay-Z, and Beyoncé.
