Ryan Field, formerly known as Dyche Stadium, is located at Northwestern University, 1501 Central Street, Illinois. It serves home to the Northwestern Wildcats of the Big Ten Conference. The venue was inaugurated for the general public on October 2, 1926, with a construction cost of around $2.6 million. It has a seating capacity of approximately 47,130 people. The stadium is owned and operated by Northwestern University. The architecture of the venue was designed by James Gamble Rogers. Since its opening, it has gone through several renovations and expansions. The site is the only stadium in Football Bowl Subdivision without permanent lights.
The first game played at the Ryan field was a football match between the Northwestern Wildcats and South Dakota on October 2, 1926. Northwestern Wildcats defeated the Chicago Maroons at the stadium with a score of 38-7 in front of a crowd of 45,000 people. The stadium hosted the 1948 Men's (July 9–10) and 1932 Women's (July 16) US Olympic Trials for track and field. It has also hosted the 1943 NCAA track and field championships. Summer College All-Star Game was held in the venue in 1943 and 1944. Some parts of Four Friends and The Express: The Ernie Davis Story were filmed at the stadium in the past.
