The Northland Coliseum, known as the Coliseum, was an indoor arena that is no longer in use now. It is situated on the north side of Northland at 7424 118 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The venue was formerly known as the Edmonton Coliseum. The coliseum opened to the general public on November 10, 1974, with a construction cost of $17.3 million. It has a seating capacity of approximately 17,100 for hockey and 13,000 for concerts. Philips, Barrett, Hillier, Jones Partners Wynn, Forbes, Lord, Feldberg, and Schmidt designed the architecture of the arena. The Coliseum underwent several renovations in the years 1994, 2001, and 2007. On January 1, 2018, Northland Coliseum closed its doors due to the given age and small size of the Coliseum. The arena was used as a venue for concerts and sporting events. It served as a home to the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League (NHL) and the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League (WHL).
National Coliseum has hosted several events, games, and concerts. The 1981 and 1984 Canada Cup Hockey Tournaments, seven Stanley cup finals, the 1978 CommonWealth Games along with many other hockey games were held at the venue. On April 6, 2016, the final NHL game was played in the arena. Metallica filmed a part of their film, Through the Never at the venue on August 17 and 18, 2012. Demi Lovato and the famous musical band Yes has also performed at the Northland Coliseum.
