North Shore Music Theatre is one of the largest operating regional theaters located in Beverly, Massachusetts. The venue opened for the public in 1954. It is under the ownership of Bill Hanney, who is a Massachusetts businessman. The theatre is known for being one of the few remaining theatre-in-the-round stages across the nation. The venue was founded by attorney C. Henry Glovsky, producer Steven Slane, and bandleader Ruby Newman. The theatre was originally opened as a comedy center. The current seating capacity of the theatre is 1800. Soon it was the largest non-profit theater in New England. The venue is known for presenting a series of celebrity concerts of children's musicals annually. It also serves as the home of the Youth Performance Academy. Its purpose is to provide opportunities for child actors who wish to perform.
North Shore Music Theatre produced the world premiere of the musical Memphis in 2003, which won the Tony Award. It also produced the regional premieres of Thoroughly Modern Millie, Ragtime, Hairspray, and many others. Currently, the theatre produces a five-show subscription series and a unique popular production of A Christmas Carol. The most recent musical season includes Little Shop of Horrors, Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella, Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story, Kinky Boots, and Thoroughly Modern Millie.
