The Mount Baker Theatre (MBT) is a performing arts venue located in Bellingham, Washington. It is known as a national historic landmark inaugurated for the public on April 29, 1927. The theatre is under the City of Bellingham's ownership and is operated by Mount Baker Theatre. With a seating capacity of the main theatre as 1,517 and Walton theater as 200, the venue hosts concerts, professional production, community performances from the north of Puget Sound, and much more. The venue's main stage is the largest in Washington, north of Seattle's Paramount and the 5th Avenue. Robert Reamer did the architecture of the building in a Moorish-Spanish style.
According to many famous legends, the building of the Mount Baker Theatre is haunted by a ghost named Judy. The paranormal investigating team of Syfy Channel's show Ghost Hunters spent a night in the theater to investigate. The venue occupies half a city block, and it has three distinct facilities for live theater, films, concerts, receptions, and other events. The main theater is on the main floor, and the balcony has an orchestra pit sitting 5 feet below the stage, which can accommodate around 25 musicians. The Encore Room is another featured section of the theater, a reception hall, or sometimes referred to as a meeting space. Around 120 people can be accommodated here.
The third featured section of the Mount Baker Theatre is Walton Theater, named to honor Harold and Irene Walton. As compared to others, Walton Theater is a smaller performance space with attached restrooms and a kitchen.
