Lewis McCormick Field is a famous baseball stadium located in Asheville, North Carolina. The venue broke ground in 1923, and it opened for the public on April 3, 1924. The total construction cost of the entire project was $200,000, with a seating capacity of 4,000. It is under the ownership of the City of Asheville and operated by DeWine Seeds Silver Dollar Baseball, LLC. The facility features a Natural Grass surface. Bowers, Ellis, and Watson designed the architecture of the building. McCormick Field serves as the home field to the Asheville Tourists minor league baseball team. Two of the past tenants include UNC Asheville Bulldogs (BSC) Big South Tournament (2009) and Asheville Blues (NSL) (the 1940s).
McCormick Field is one of the oldest minor-league parks currently in use. The baseball stadium was named to honor Asheville resident Lewis McCormick. Before the 1930 season, the lights were installed in the stadium for nighttime play. The venue underwent a major renovation in 1959, and later, between the 1991 and 1992 seasons, the stadium was rebuilt in concrete. Some of the notable additions include larger concession stands, expanded restrooms, and new clubhouses.
Lewis McCormick Field also served as the host to one of the settings for the famous 1988 film named Bull Durham. The stadium hosted the 2009 Big South Conference Baseball Tournament and a wide variety of musical events.
