Jay Pritzker Pavilion is an American bandshell in Millennium Park located in the Loop area of Chicago, Illinois. The venue is also known as Pritzker Music Pavilion or Pritzker Pavilion. The pavilion is named after Jay Pritzker, whose family is known for owning Hyatt Hotels. The facility has a seating capacity of 11,000, where 4,000 are fixed, and 7,000 are available on the lawn. The pavilion building was designed by architect Frank Gehry who also accepted the design commission in April 1999. The pavilion was constructed between June 1999 and July 2004. Officially, Jay Pritzker Pavilion opened on July 16, 2004.
Pritzker Pavilion serves as the centerpiece for Millennium Park. It is the home venue to the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra and Chorus and the Grant Park Music Festival. The pavilion hosts a range of music series and annual performing arts events. From classical musicians and opera singers to mainstream rock bands appear at the pavilion.
Jay Pritzker hosts many free events. The pavilion has also hosted numerous one-day events, including the United States debut of “A Throw of Dice.” Oprah Winfrey has also filmed the season-opening for “Oprah Winfrey Show” on September 3, 2008, at Jay Pritzker Pavilion.
