Currently, Husky Stadium has a seating capacity of approximately 70,083 since 2014. The stadium is owned and operated by the University of Washington and first opened for the public on November 27, 1920.
Puget Sound Bridge and Dredging Company originally built Husky Stadium. Initially, it had a seating capacity of 30,000 and was the primary venue for the 1990 Goodwill Games. The crowd witnessed an address by former President Ronald Reagan and Arnold Schwarzenegger with Gorky Park and Moody Blues’ performances.
Husky Stadium has been a temporary home for the Seattle Seahawks for five games. Before 1938, the playing field at Husky Stadium was dirt and later on replaced with natural grass. Washington became one of the major college teams in 1968 to play on AstroTurf at home.
Husky Stadium is used for the University’s annual commencement every June. $280 million in renovations was completed in 2013 at the Husky Stadium. The design was structured in a U-shape to minimize glare from the early afternoon sun for athletes.
