Evanston S.P.A.C.E. is a small concert hall for music performance, live recording, and a podcast production facility. The venue serves for the visual arts and literary events as well. It is located in Evanston, Illinois, and has a seating capacity of 250. The hall opened to the public in spring 2008. The seating type is based on candle-lit small round tables in a café style along with standing spectators. S.P.A.C.E. has played host to the most renowned folk music artists over the years. Some of the notable acts and artists include Leo Kottke, Justin Townes Earle, Suzanne Vega, Justin Townes Earle, and Robyn Hitchcock.
The venue's name is an acronym for the Society for the Preservation of Art and Culture in Evanston. Bruce Finkelman and Craig Golden own and operate Evanston S.P.A.C.E. along with several other music venues. The pair are also affiliated with several other restaurants and bars, including Bite Cafe and Dusek's.
Evanston S.P.A.C.E. hosts local and national touring acts in a variety of genres such as rock, blues, jazz, folk, country, and R&B. Some of the hit past artists are Alabama Shakes, Marshall Crenshaw, Zoë Keating, The English Beat, Leon Russell, The Lone Bellow, Martin Sexton, and Lucinda Williams.
Evanston S.P.A.C.E. is used for live broadcasts emitted on the local National Public Radio affiliate station WBEZ FM 91.5 regularly. The venue was ranked 4th in the 2013 WXRT Listener Poll "Best Venue."
