Zainab Johnson is an actor and comedian best known for her roles on Last Comic Standing and the Amazon dramedy Upload. Born in Harlem, New York, Johnson comes from a big family. Originally thinking of a profession in education, she studied mathematics as an undergraduate, intending to teach.
Inspired by her family and friends, Johnson quickly discovered she had a gift for performance; after graduating, she headed to Los Angeles in search of an acting job. Johnson started cutting her teeth on the stand-up open mic circuit after becoming fascinated with comedy while working odd jobs as a production assistant on several comedy programs.
She entered the eighth season of the Last Comic Standing contest to try her mettle, where she soon became a fan favorite and got as far as the semi-finals. She appeared on HBO's Def Comedy Jam in 2016 and was listed as one of 10 Comics to Watch in Variety magazine shortly after that. She anchors the Netflix show 100 Humans and regularly appears on Amazon's Upload.
