Tucson Gem and Mineral Show Information
Annually in late January and early February, the city of Tucson, Arizona, plays host to the Tucson Gem, Mineral & Fossil Showcase, a series of gem and mineral displays held at various venues throughout the city. Except for a select few trade exhibits that need registration with a business license, most events are free and open to the public. The Tucson Gem & Mineral Show, put on by the Tucson Gem and Mineral Society, is the showcase's main event.
The Tucson Convention Center's 181,000 square feet (16,800 square meters) are currently occupied by this exhibition, which has been running continuously since 1955. The Tucson Gem and Mineral Show featured displays of prestigious institutions, such as the Smithsonian and the Sorbonne. After starting in a primary school, the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show eventually made its way to the Quonset hut at the Tucson Fair Grounds. The show relocated to the Tucson Community Center in 1973, the first residence in the North Exhibit Hall before eventually spreading into the Arena and the upper Arena concourse.
In 1990, construction was completed at the Tucson Convention Center, where the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show was held. Between 1996 and 2010, Katherine Rambo believes that an average of 1,300 vendors were present, representing 49 different states and 32 different countries.
