The Magic Flute Information
Adapted from a German libretto by Emanuel Schikaneder, Mozart's The Magic Flute is a two-act opera. Singspiels, singing, and spoken dialogue were common when this work was composed. Two months before the composer's untimely demise, the piece had its premiere on September 30, 1791, at the Freihaus-Theater auf der Wieden in Vienna, which Schikaneder owned.
Das Labyrinth and Der Kampf mit den Elementen, composed by Peter Winter, were direct sequels to the opera, which is still a mainstay of opera repertoire. The Magic Flute zweyter Theil (1798) and a partially completed libretto called The Magic Flute Part Two by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
The allegorical plot revolves around Prince Tamino's initiation and was shaped by Schikaneder and Mozart's fascination with Freemasonry. Tamino grows to respect Sarastro's lofty principles after being enlisted by the Queen of the Night to save her daughter Pamina from the clutches of the high priest. The Queen and her supporters are defeated, and he and Pamina are accepted into Sarastro's community.
