Jack Ladder (April 6, 1983) is an Australian rock music composer, guitarist, singer, and songwriter born in Sydney, New South Wales. Not Worth Waiting For (Spunk 2005), Love Is Gone (Spunk 2008), Hurtsville (Spunk 2011/Holloweyed 2012), and Playmates are the five albums that Ladder has released since that year (Self Portrait 2014). Love Is Gone made the Australian Music Prize shortlist, taking home the Red Bull Music Award for a great promise. Additionally, Who magazine chose it as Album of the Year.
Hurtsville, a song by The Dreamlanders (Kirin J. Callinan, Donny Benét, and Laurence Pike), was published by Ladder in 2011. After its release, he received nominations for Best Male Artist, Best Song, and Best Album in The Age (Melbourne) EG Music Awards. Hurtsville was included on the shortlist for the Australian Music Prize, and the lead song, "Cold Feet," was named "Song of the Year" by renowned Australian music website Mess & Noise.
Hurtsville was released in 2012 through the Holloweyed label in North America, Skycap in Germany, and the Benelux. The album was lauded by Inpress, who called it "honest, rich, and unlike anything else." With the album, "Ladder continues to thrill, frustrate, and intrigue," according to Beat magazine. The album received a 9 out of 10 rating from Vice and was described as "taking subversion to another level," The Age referred to it as "A horrific wasp-factory novella of loathing." It received a perfect score of 5 from Time Out. The lead song, "Astronaut," from Jack Ladder and The Dreamlanders' sixth studio album, Hijack!, was released on June 28, 2021.
