Texas Ballet Theater Information
Margo Dean founded the Texas Ballet Theater in 1961 Fort Worth, Texas. It was established as the Fort Worth Ballet Association. The following year, Dean Schaffenburg extended an offer to Fernando Schaffenburg to take over as director of the firm.
After Dallas Ballet closed its doors in 1988, the company formed a relationship with The Dallas Opera to produce The Nutcracker at The Music Hall with music provided by The Dallas Opera Orchestra.
FWDB was forced to cancel shows in Dallas and one in Fort Worth in early 2002. The reason was that the Dallas Supporters needed more funding to produce the Ballet's Dallas season 2001. This took place during FWDB's season without a set creative director. Ballet-Master-in-Chief Bruce Simpson and Artistic Advisor Bruce Marks manage the current affairs.
An agreement to combine the two companies and their boards was drafted during the 2002-2003 campaign. In 2003, the newly formed group adopted the moniker Texas Ballet Theater.
Ben Stevenson, O.B.E., artistic director of Texas Ballet Theater, often performs with his company at the AT&T Performing Arts Center's Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House in Dallas. It also occurs at the Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass Performance Hall.
