Tango Argentino Information
Produced as a musical, Tango Argentino tells the tale of the evolution of tango in Argentina and showcases the many different styles that have emerged over time. Hector Orezzoli and Claudio Segovia wrote it, and it debuted at the Festival d'Automne in Paris in 1983 before moving to Broadway in New York the following year. The Mel Howard production toured worldwide extensively and had a successful Broadway revival in 1999–2000.
It sparked a revival of tango as a social dance and a musical style worldwide. From its inception in 19th-century Buenos Aires to its golden phase in the 1940s and 1950s, the entire history of tango is recreated on stage here. Almost all of the performers in the program created their dances for the performance.
The Argentine tango proved surprisingly popular and with a cast average age of 42.
