Susan Rice Information
Susan Elizabeth Rice (November 17, 1964) is an American diplomat, former public official, and Democratic policy advisor. She is from Washington, DC, and attended Stanford University and New College located at the University of Oxford. Susan Rice served on President Bill Clinton's National Security Council from 1993 to 1997. She was even the Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs at the State Department (1997 to 2001) and the 27th United States Ambassador to the United Nations from 2009 to 2013. Rice served as the United States National Security Advisor from 2013 to 2017.
As a young adult, Rice was a three-letter varsity athlete, valedictorian at National Cathedral School in Washington, DC, and student government president at her private school. She was also elected Phi Beta Kappa her junior year. On a Rhodes Scholarship, Rice was able to attend New College, Oxford. In 1988, she earned a Master of Philosophy and a Doctorate of Philosophy in 1990 (both in IR). She was honored as the UK's most distinguished in international relations by Chatham House, the Royal Institute of International Affairs.
On boards, she serves many organizations, such as the board of directors of the Bureau of National Affairs, Inc. (Bloomberg BNA), the advisory board of Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University, and the board of directors of Partnership for Public Service.
In 2002, Rice was inducted into Stanford's Black Alumni Hall of Fame. In 2017, she was honored with the Award of Commander (the Legion of Honour of France) for her contributions to Franco-American relations, by French President François Hollande.
