Born in San Jose, California, Wozniak attended the University of Colorado Boulder before being sent out for breaking into the school's computer network. Always interested in learning about new technologies, in 1971, he designed and built his first computer, which he says taught him a lot that helped him think clearly while constructing the Apple I and Apple II. He started at Berkeley College but dropped out before getting his degree. This friendship with Steve Jobs set him on the route to Apple. After designing the Apple I, Jobs and Wozniak formally established Apple Computer in 1977, with board production beginning in Jobs' childhood garage. Wozniak joined Apple after the success of the first computer and stayed until 1985 when he built the Apple II, the first personal computer to display color graphics.
Even after he left Apple for good, he played a significant role in the firm and was frequently invited to speak at events. In 2017, he established Woz U as a resource for self-directed learners and employees seeking formal IT training. Wozniak has won multiple awards for his work and has been honored with various distinctions, including induction into the National Inventors Hall of Fame, the Isaac Asimov Science Award, and the National Medal of Technology.
