Sasha Cooke Information
Sasha Cooke is an American mezzo-soprano. She was born in Riverside, California, and raised in College Station, Texas. There, her parents were professors of Russian at Texas A&M University. Cooke trained at the Juilliard School in New York and earned a bachelor’s degree from Rice University. In 2002, she also attended the Music Academy of the West. She won best opera recording at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards for Doctor Atomic in 2011. In 2018, she again received the Grammy Awards for the best opera recording for (R)evolution of Steve Jobs.
Cooke has also performed with different opera companies worldwide, including English National Opera, Israeli Opera, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Dallas Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Seattle Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Opéra National de Bordeaux, and the Metropolitan Opera. Throughout her career, Cooke has been engaged by more than 70 orchestras, including New World Symphony, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, New Zealand Symphony, Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Nashville Symphony, and St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.
Young Concert Artists presented Cooke in her critically lauded New York and Washington debuts at Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall and the Kennedy Center. Alice Tully Hall, Wigmore Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the 92nd Street Y have all hosted her recital. Hyperion, BIS, Chandos, Pentatone, Naxos, Bridge Records, Yarlung, GPR Records, and Sono Luminus have all released her recordings.
