Sarah Vowell Information
Sarah Vowell (December 27, 1969) is an American journalist, author, social commentator, and actress from Muskogee, Oklahoma. At 11, she moved to Bozeman, Montana, and eventually earned a B.A. from Montana State University in 1993. Later, in 1999, Vowell earned an M.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. So far, she has written seven non-fiction books that are based on American history and culture. Vowell was also a contributing editor from 1996 to 2008 for the radio program named This American Life on Public Radio International. She produced several documentaries and commentaries and toured across the country for this show.
Sarah Vowell’s articles have been published in Esquire, Spin Magazine, The Village Voice, The New York Times, SF Weekly, and The Los Angeles Times. She is a regular contributor to the online magazine Salon.com. Radio On: A Listener's Diary (1997) was the first book by Vowell that caught the attention of This American Life host Ira Glass. As a result, Vowell became a regular contributor to the show.
Some of her notable published works include 2002—The Partly Cloudy Patriot, 2005—Assassination Vacation, 2008—The Wordy Shipmates, 2011—Unfamiliar Fishes, and 2015—Lafayette in the Somewhat United States. Vowell has also starred in many hit films such as Man in the Sand, Gigantic, Hit So Hard, A.C.O.D., and End of the Line. Her notable television appearances include Bored to Death, Lafayette: The Lost Hero, and The Tavis Smiley Show.
