Sacramento Ballet Information
In 1954, Barbara Crockett and Deane Crockett established Sacramento Ballet. Under Ms. Crockett's direction, Sacramento Dance rose to prominence as one of the top regional dance groups, earning accolades on a national scale.
Community involvement, the establishment of the Ballet Guild, and financial backing from organizations like the California Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission allowed the Ballet to expand and recruit a resident company of professional dancers.
With the Sacramento Ballet transformed into a professional company, Ms. Crockett departed as Company Director in 1986, achieving her mission.
Being the sole arts organization in Sacramento with a resident company of performers, Sacramento Ballet has played a vital role in the city's arts scene for almost seven decades.
Organizations such as the California Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Sacramento Regional Community Foundation, the City of Sacramento Office of Arts & Culture, The James Irvine Foundation, Raley's Stores, Kaiser Permanente, and Western Health Advantage are among the many private organizations and government entities that contribute to the Sacramento Ballet's annual operating and artistic budget.
