Rusty Dewees Information
Rusty DeWees (November 15, 1960) is an American writer, actor, and producer. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He went to Stowe High School, where he participated as a basketball player and percussionist in the school band. He was also active in the school's dramatics department. DeWees has been a school bus driver, a coach for basketball, a stonemason, and a logger since he graduated from high school. Champlain College basketball coach Robert Tipson saw him play for a local team and recruited him. He moved to Burlington, Vermont after finishing college and worked as a gas jockey.
Before relocating to New York City in 1989, DeWees honed his acting chops in Burlington with Vermont Repertory Theater, where he performed under the direction of Robert R. Ringer. DeWees assisted William J. Doyle of William Doyle Galleries in New York while appearing in commercials and films.
DeWees appeared in the films Black Dog, Radical Jack, Mud Season, A Stranger in the Kingdom, Pieces of April, Where the Rivers Flow North, and The Devil's Own, and is well-known for his genuine country accent. DeWees has also guest-starred on shows, including Law & Order and The Cosby Mysteries, in addition to several daytime dramas.
DeWees is best known in New England for his one-man play, The Logger, a comedy in Two Ax. He met Meat Loaf while filming the Patrick Swayze movie Black Dog, and the singer gave him pointers on creating the play. Furthermore, DeWees has compiled short writings into two books: Scrawlins and Scrawlins Too.
