Ron James Information
Ron James (1958) is a Canadian stand-up comedian. He was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. He studied history and political science at Acadia University to become a history teacher. As a result of a course he was taking at Acadia, he came under the influence of Evelyn Garbary, the director of the theatre program. After graduating, he relocated to Toronto and worked with The Second City troupe there during the 1980s. He was nominated for a Genie Award for Best Supporting Actor at the 10th Genie Awards in 1989 for his role in the film Something About Love.
He eventually moved to Los Angeles for three years in the early 1990s, where he secured the role of Bucky Fergus, a Canadian transplant who worked for the City of Derby, Wisconsin, in the Talk spoof sitcom My Talk Show, which aired in 1990 to 1991. In 1993, he returned to Canada and converted his experiences in Los Angeles into a stage act called Up & Down in Shaky Town: One Man's Journey Through the California Dream, which was also shown as a Comedy Network special in 1994. James performed as a headliner with his show at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal.
