Rick Steves Information
Richard Steves (May 10, 1955) is an American television personality, author, activist, author, and travel writer born in Barstow, California. Steves and his parents traveled to Europe at the age of fourteen to visit piano manufactures. The family ran a "Steves Sound of Music" business, where they imported and sold pianos and tuned pianos. He kept track of his observations and impressions on the backs of postcards, which he numbered in order.
He has kept those cards in a wooden box all this time. During the Apollo 11 moon landing, the Steves family also visited relatives in Norway, where Steves had a life-altering epiphany: "This planet must be home to billions of equally lovable children of God." His first trip to Europe after turning 18 was without his parents. Throughout it all, he recorded his thoughts and feelings in journals.
Steves has branched out into radio, newspapers, mobile applications, guidebooks, and television shows. Travel with Rick Steves, Steves's weekly public radio show, debuted in 2005. Each show has an interview with a travel expert, followed by listener questions and comments, and focuses on destinations worldwide, concentrating on Europe and North America.
