Renee Fleming Information
Renee Fleming (February 14, 1959) is an American soprano born in Indiana, Pennsylvania. There is a fullness to Fleming's lyric soprano voice. In addition to her native English, she has sung coloratura, lyric, and lighter spinto soprano roles in Italian, German, French, Czech, and Russian opera. World premieres of operas, concert pieces, and songs written for her by composers such as André Previn, Caroline Shaw, Kevin Puts, Anders Hillborg, and many more have made up a considerable part of her career.
"A Time to Sing" was Fleming and Vanessa Williams' live performance in the Kennedy Center Opera House on September 25, 2020, in front of a small, socially-distant crowd. The concert was also streamed live; it was the first performance at the Kennedy Center on a stage since the pandemic shutdown on March 13. Fleming performed at a private mass that President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris attended on January 20, 2021, just before they were sworn in as president and vice president of the United States, respectively.
Party leaders from the House of Representatives and the Senate were also in attendance. She made her theatrical return on November 22, 2022, as Clarissa Vaughan in the Metropolitan Opera's world premiere of The Hours, an opera by Kevin Puts.
