A young child, full of energy and curiosity, is introduced to the enchanted world of Latin rhythms and their universal ability to convey emotion. When Max, a hyperactive and impulsive young boy, decides to join the ensemble onstage during a performance of music from the Americas, things take an unexpected turn.
Max soon embarks on a whirlwind journey that transports him to the vibrant regions of Latin American culture, where he learns the magic of Latin rhythms and how to "dance" with the music. In the most participatory performance ever put on by Platypus Theatre, the crowd gets up and dances to the sounds of Latin America.
Presto, Mambo! was co-commissioned by the symphonies of Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto, and Ottawa so that young listeners could experience the thrill of a full symphony ensemble playing to the irresistible rhythms of Latin America.
