PJ O'Rourke (November 14, 1947) is an American political satirist and journalist from Toledo, Ohio. He is also as well as a regular correspondent for The Weekly Standard, The American Spectator, and The Atlantic Monthly. Not only this, but O'Rourke is a frequent panelist on National Public Radio's game show Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!. PJ O'Rourke has also been a columnist at The Daily Beast since 2011.
In 1969, O'Rourke received his undergraduate degree from Miami University and earned an M.A. in English at Johns Hopkins University. Later, he emerged as a humorist and a political observer completely rooted in libertarian conservatism.
O'Rourke is a well-known face in the U.K. for his work with British Airways, having a long-running series of television advertisements in the 1990s for the company. He has written 20 books and the best known are All the Trouble in the World, an examination of current political concerns and Holidays in Hell. The latter one is the compilation of O'Rourke's articles as a freelance foreign correspondent.
O'Rourke also wrote articles for several publications, such as for the Baltimore underground newspaper Harry and the New York Ace, "A.J. at N.Y. U." for The Rip Off Review of Western Culture, and many more. He served as editor-in-chief in National Lampoon in 1973. He turned towards freelancing in 1981 and has written for iPlayboy, Car and Driver, Vanity Fair, and Rolling Stone.
PJ O'Rourke has published 16 books, among which 3 earned New York Times bestsellers titles. Give War a Chance and Parliament of Whores reached #1 on The New York Times Best Seller list.
