Phil Wang Information
Phil Wang (January 22, 1990) is a British-Malaysian comedy writer and stand-up comedian. He was born in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. Wang received his early education in Malaysia, learning Malay, Mandarin Chinese, and English. He attended Jerudong International School in Brunei to earn his GCSEs. At age 16, he and his family relocated to the United Kingdom, settling in Bath, Somerset. There, he studied at Kingswood School. Afterward, he studied engineering at King's College, Cambridge, and served as president of the Cambridge Footlights drama society.
Wang was named Comedy Central's Funniest Student in 2011 and the 2010 Chortle Student Comedian of the Year. At Cambridge University, where he earned his four-year engineering degree, he served as president of Footlights in 2012. Afterward, Wang appeared at the Melbourne International Comedy and Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Among Wang's many film and television credits are roles in The Rob Brydon Show, Comedy Up Late, About Tonight, and Room 101. Have I Got News for You, Would I Lie to You? Also, you may recognize him from his role in the comedy series Top Coppers. Wang defeated his buddy and fellow comedian Ed Gamble in Comedy Central's Roast Battle round, presented by Jimmy Carr in January 2018. Wang has uploaded two full stand-up comedy gigs on his YouTube channel for free viewing. Wang's work has appeared in The Guardian as well.
