Peter Pan Information
"Peter Pan" is a famous play by J. M. Barrie. It was first produced in 1904. Barrie later adapted the play into a novel titled "Peter and Wendy" in 1911. Most of the music was composed by Moose Charlap, while additional music was composed by Jule Styne. Carolyn Leigh was primarily responsible for the song's lyrical content, with other lyrical contributions coming from Betty Comden and Adolph Green.
Both Mary Martin and Cyril Ritchard won Tony Awards for their performances in the first Broadway production of Peter Pan, which took place in 1954. There were NBC telecasts of it in 1955, 1956, and 1960 with the same stars. Also, numerous rebroadcasts of the 1960 airing took place later on. In total, there were five broadcasts of the 1960 version.
Peter Pan premiered in 1960 and was first made available on VHS and LaserDisc in 1990 and then on DVD on October 19, 1999. None of the three Mary Martin adaptations of Peter Pan were broadcast from a theater in front of a live audience. A television production of the Broadway musical that starred Cathy Rigby was taped in front of a live audience. It was broadcast on A&E in 2000.
A new version of the musical Peter Pan Live!, featuring Allison Williams as Peter, Christopher Walken as Captain Hook, Kelli O'Hara as Mrs. Darling, Christian Borle as Mr. Darling/Smee, and Minnie Driver as adult Wendy, was televised on NBC in 2014. The broadcast received a variety of opinions from critics, with many expressing satisfaction that it needed to be completed.
