Peach State Opera (PSO) was founded in 2009 as the Founding Artistic Director Evelyn Hughes’ brainchild. This touring company is responsible for enriching the culture of the Georgia region’s small communities. The company is polished when it comes to nurturing the careers of young, emerging professional opera singers. The small communities’ enrichment is done by presenting high-quality, dynamic, and affordable touring classic opera productions. The delivery is done in a family-friendly and condensed version in English.
PSO is known for empowering the emerging professional opera singers as they are cast in resume-building leading roles. The company shares the thrill of live opera with the tiny Georgian communities along with the surrounding areas. PSO resides as one of the college’s “Artist Affiliate” organizations at the Clarkston campus of Georgia Perimeter College. Evelyn Hughes recognized two essential perennial needs when it comes to an operatic art form. The audiences outside of major urban areas require access to engaging live performances, and there is a lack of opportunities for emerging operatic professionals to perform new roles.
With these missions in her mind, Hughes understands how a significant contribution can be made to the art form that blessed her life. As a result, PSO was founded and still fulfills her approach to accomplish these missions.
