Pam Tanowitz is a dancer, choreographer, lecturer, and creator of the company Pam Tanowitz Dance in the United States. Tanowitz started ballet when he was in high school. He was born in the Bronx in 1969. She trained under Viola Farber Slayton and graduated with a BFA and an MFA in dance from Ohio State and Sarah Lawrence College, respectively.
She works as a faculty member at Rutgers University's Mason Gross School of the Arts. She instructs students in dance and choreography. Her works have been presented in prestigious theaters and concert halls like the Joyce Theater, Joyce SoHo, New York Live Arts, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Tanowitz has had works commissioned by illustrious dance groups such as the Paul Taylor Dance Company, Martha Graham Dance Company, and the New York City Ballet. Dance critic for The New York Times Gia Kourlas calls Tanowitz a "contemporary choreographer greatly praised for the way she recharges classical routines."
