Momix Information
MOMIX is a dance company created in 1981 by choreographer Moses Pendleton in Washington, Connecticut. MOMIX arose from Pendleton's work for a tribute to Erik Satie at the Paris Opera in 1978. Pendleton created the solo "Momix" for the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, and the company is named after it. MOMIX is an extension of the Pilobolus dance group, which Pendleton co-founded in 1971. MOMIX produces theatrical performances that incorporate acrobatics, dance, gymnastics, mime, props, and video. The company has toured abroad and performed on five continents with great success. MOMIX is a modern dance group that is for profit.
MOMIX has appeared on Antenne II in France and has produced five Italian RAI television features broadcast in 55 countries (including the USSR and China). MOMIX was also shown on Canadian television with Charles Dutoit and the Montreal Symphony in Rhombus Media's film of Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition," winning an International Emmy for Best Performing Arts Specialist.
MOMIX is included in "IMAGINE," one of the first 3-D IMAX pictures, which premiered at Taejon Expo 93 and was later released in IMAX theatres worldwide. MOMIX dancers Cynthia Quinn and Karl Baumann play "Bluey" in the film "FX II," directed by Moses Pendleton. Pendleton and Cynthia Quinn co-choreographed "White Widow," featured in Robert Altman's film "The Company" in 2004.
