Mitch Albom Information
Mitchell David Albom (May 23, 1958) is an American musician, author, and journalist. He was born in Passaic, New Jersey. ?Albom became interested in journalism after moving to New York. He supplemented his income by working in the music industry in the evenings and writing for the Queens Tribune, a weekly newspaper in Flushing, New York, during the day. His efforts helped him gain admission to Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism. To help pay for his tuition, he worked as a babysitter during his time there.
Albom debuted on WLLZ-Detroit, a now-defunct Active Rock radio station, in 1987. He worked as a sports analyst on the station's morning show, and in 1988, he launched The Sunday Sports Albom, a Sunday night sports-talk show that is said to be one of the earliest sports-talk shows ever broadcast on FM radio.
In 1996, he went to Detroit's WJR, a powerful, clear-channel station, where he hosts a five-day-a-week general talk show focused on entertainment, writing, current events, and culture. The Michigan Association of Broadcasters named him the greatest afternoon talk show host, while Hour Detroit magazine named him the finest talk show host in Detroit. In 2001, MSNBC broadcasted a national simulcast of the show.
