Michael Winslow Information
Michael Leslie Winslow (September 6, 1958) is an American beatboxer, comedian, and actor. Winslow was the son of Verdie and Robert Winslow and was born in Spokane, Washington. After growing up at Fairchild Air Force Base near Spokane, he attended the Lisa Maile School of Acting, Modeling, and Imaging. He had his debut appearance on television on The Gong Show when he did impressions of Benji, the movie dog, Star Trek, and Jimi Hendrix's "Purple Haze." He is recognized for his portrayal of Larvell Jones in the Police Academy film and television series. After being seen opening for Count Basie, he was cast.
Winslow starred as a radar operator in the 1987 film Spaceballs, in which he performed all of the sound effects himself. According to Mel Brooks, Winslow saved the picture money (who wrote, directed, produced, and co-starred in the film). Winslow is a motivational speaker as well.
In 2010, Winslow released his own iPhone and iPod Touch apps, bringing his sound effects and humor to a mobile platform for the first time. When the device is swung in a combat motion, ThatsKungFu produces Winslow's kung fu fighting sounds. Winslow created a video, ringtones, sound effects, and mini-games for NoizeyMan, advertised as the "World's Noiziest App." During GEICO Insurance's "We Hired a Star" ad campaign, he was also featured in a commercial.
