Michael Pollan (February 6, 1955) is an American journalist and author. He was born in Long Island, New York. In The Botany of Desire, Pollan examines the idea of co-evolution from both the human and plant points of view, focusing on our shared evolutionary history with four plants: apples, tulips, marijuana, and potatoes. To show how these plants are selectively cultivated, bred, and genetically altered, he provides examples that correspond to the four archetypal needs of humans.
Apples, beauty by tulips, intoxication by marijuana, and command by potatoes represent a desire for sweetness. With an emphasis on the dietary guidance supplied by the scientific community in the late 20th century, Michael Pollan's book In Defense of Dietary: An Eater's Manifesto was published on January 1, 2008, and examines the connection between what he calls nutritionism and the Western diet. Pollan believes that breaking food into its nutrients is a mistake and that there is no correlation between fat and cholesterol consumption and an increased risk of heart disease.
The Eater's Manual: Food Rules was released in 2009. This little work is an abbreviated version of his earlier efforts to outline a straightforward plan for a long-term, nutritious diet. It expands on Pollan's "Eat food." tenets throughout three distinct sections. Only a little bit. Predominantly vegetation."
