Mark Nepo Information
Mark Nepo (February 23, 1961) is an American poet and spiritual advisor. The Book of Awakening, Nepo's number 1 New York Times bestseller, is his most well-known work. He has six audio projects and 12 novels under his belt. Nepo, a cancer survivor, writes and educates about the path of personal growth and relationship-based living.
Nepo holds an English Ph.D. and spent 18 years as a professor at Albany, New York's State University of New York. Later, he relocated to Kalamazoo, Michigan. His experience with cancer in his 30s helped shape his concept of living a full life while maintaining a relationship with an uncertain future.
The Book of Awakening by Nepo reached the top of the New York Times bestseller list in 2010 when Oprah Winfrey named it one of her "Ultimate Favorite Things" for her departure season. Nepo was included in Oprah Winfrey's SuperSoul100 list of visionaries and significant figures in leadership after co-hosting many episodes of her Super Soul Sunday program on OWN TV. On Good Morning America, he was also questioned by Robin Roberts. In her column from O! magazine, Oprah has also written twice on Nepo (most recently in April 2011). The Books for A Better Life Award was given to his most recent book, Seven Thousand Ways to Listen (2012).
