Lil Buck Information
Charles "Lil Buck" Riley (May 25, 1988) is an American model, actor, and dancer. He was born in Chicago, Illinois. While receiving a scholarship to the New Ballet Ensemble (NBE) in Memphis, Lil Buck studied ballet for two years. He agreed to the scholarship on the understanding that he wouldn't need to wear tights, but he ultimately gave in so he could perform with the company. Riley and his NBE instructor, Katie Smythe, collaborated on the choreography for "The Dying Swan," which they originally performed while Riley was still a student.
Lil Buck and Yo-Yo Ma appeared together in a performance of "The Swan" in 2011 that became a YouTube sensation thanks to director and former ballet dancer Damian Woetzel. An old YouTube video clip of Lil Buck freestyle dancing to Camille Saint-Saens' Le Cygne (The Swan) during a New Ballet Ensemble (NBE) school performance in West Memphis, Arkansas, Woetzel first learned about Lil Buck from his wife, Heather Watts.
Woetzel and Lil Buck continued to work together professionally after their performance of "The Swan." At the 2011 Vail International Dance Festival, Woetzel invited Lil Buck to serve as the resident artist. Lil Buck spent most of 2013 performing in Michael Jackson: One, a Cirque du Soleil production. At a Woetzel-produced event hosted at (Le) Poisson Rouge in New York City, Lil Buck and Yo-Yo Ma collaborated for the third time.
