Lance Burton Information
William Lance Burton is a stage magician born in Columbia, Kentucky. Thus far, Burton has performed more than 15,000 shows and entertained over 5,000,000 people. He first became interested in magic at the age of 5 while volunteering at one of the magic shows by magician Harry Collins. He received a magic book, “Magic Made Easy,” from which he learned magic tricks. Burton began performing magic in front of his neighborhood children, charging a nickel each.
Burton was noticed by Collins, who later became his mentor, teaching him the fundamentals of magic. He entered his first magic competition in 1977 while still a teenager and won first prize. After his 20th birthday, Burton was awarded a “Gold Medal of Excellence” by the International Brotherhood of Magicians. After this big achievement, he moved to Southern California, where Burton began appearing on “The Tonight Show” in 1981.
Burton also performed an initial eight-week trial at the Folies Bergere show in Las Vegas. He competed at the International Federation Internationale des Societes Magiques (FISM) competition in Lausanne, Switzerland, in 1982, where he won the “Grand Prix'' prize. He was the youngest participant ever to win the main event and the first American.
Burton also guest-starred the fourth season of Knight Rider entitled “Deadly Knightshade.” He has appeared in the Halloween special of Nickelodeon, Mystery Magical Special, in 1986. Burton has even written, produced, and directed his show in 1991 entitled “Hacienda Hotel.”
